Bullet Resistant Glass

What is Bullet Resistant Glass?

Bulletproof glass is a durable alternative to glass for structures and vehicles that need an additional level of protection. By using strong, sturdy plastics, bulletproof glass stopping a frenzy of bullets dead in its tracks, it is not fully impenetrable. In fact, no bulletproof glass is guaranteed to protect against all projectiles. Instead, bulletproof glass is meant to absorb energy from bullets upon impact.

Glass-clad Polycarbonate

Bullet resistant, no-spall, glass clad polycarbonate is a combination of various layers of glass, polycarbonate, PVB (Poly Vinylbutyral) and/or a ThermoPlastic Urethane (TPU). Typically, a thin layer of glass is used on the exterior (threat side) surface to resist scratching or environmental effects. The interior (rear) face is always a polycarbonate layer with a scratch resistant coating. These various layers are bonded together and come as a single unit.

Not all UL 752 Ratings are linear

When you think of a ratings system, you normally assume that the numbers correspond to the level of protection or benefit that is offered. Level 1 would be the lowest, level 2 would be the next in line, and so on. But that’s not the case for all UL 752 ratings.

Each level requires the material to withstand impact from a specific type of ballistic impact.
